Victor Cortina

Victor “Chick” Cortina, age 98, of Grant Street, Byrnedale, PA, died at home, January 1, 2023.  A son of the late Cesare and Cesarina (Gavazzi) Cortina, he was born on April 30, 1924 in Byrnedale, PA.

Besides his parents, Chick was predeceased by: four brothers, Mario, Robert, Silvio and Leo Cortina; and two sisters, Albena Fantechi and Ida Capozzi.

Chick is survived by his sister, Anna Cortina of Byrnedale.

Chick graduated from Jay Township High School, Class of 1944.  He served in the Army during WWII, from 1944 – ’46, achieving rank of Corporal.  He worked at Stackpole Carbon for forty one years, retiring in 1988.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bennetts Valley American Legion and the Bennetts Valley Senior Center.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at Willie’s Garage.  He lived all his life at the same residence.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and also on Friday, from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 6, 2023 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Force, PA, with Father Mark Mastrian.

Interment will take place in the Church Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Bennetts Valley Ambulance, the Bennetts Valley Senior Center, or the St. Joseph Church of Force, and will be accepting online condolences at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home website (www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com).
