Rev. David John Miller, age 82, of Penfield, PA, went to the arms of his loving God July 12th, 2024 in New Bethlehem, PA.
David was born March 20th, 1942 in Bruin, PA to Rev. Jefferson and Ruby Young Miller. He married Nancy Ellen McCleery on August 26th, 1966; who predeceased him on February 7, 2021.
He is survived by: 2 sons, David J. Miller, Jr., Sewickley, PA and John J. (Barbara) Miller, Hermitage, PA; 5 grandchildren; and a brother, Kurt W. (Mary) Miller of Volant, PA.
Preceding him in death, along with his wife, Nancy, and his parents, Jefferson and Ruby; was his brother, Robert J Miller.
He graduated from Clarion University with a Bachelor’s degree in Comprehensive Science, later returning to earn his Master’s. He started his educational career in Altoona, PA, and would go on to teach at Oakdale Christian Academy in Jackson, KY, Quisqueya Christian School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and DuBois Area HS in DuBois, PA.
Called to ministry while teaching at Altoona, he accepted his first pastoral charge to the Free Methodist Church in Galeton, PA. Additional appointments would be churches at Tionesta & Newmansville, North East, Penfield & Gardner Hill churches, DuBois, and Erie. He was an ordained Elder in the Free Methodist Church.
He additionally spent time working at Kibbutz Revivim in the Negev Desert, Israel, and would return over the years to visit friends.
He periodically attended synagogue at Sons of Israel Congregation in DuBois and enjoyed fellowship with those friends as well.
His retirement years were spent taking care of Nancy, raising blueberries as well as a large greenhouse full of plants, and attending the Penfield Free Methodist and Penfield Global Methodist Churches, playing piano and organ at the Free Methodist Church. He considered himself a messianic Jew and loved God deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., August 10, 2024 at the Penfield Firemen’s Training Center - (12255 Bennetts Valley Hwy., Penfield, PA)
