Philip F. Fitch, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army, Retired, age 74, of Meffert Run Road, Wilcox, PA, died October 10, 2021 at UPMC Kane after a sudden, short illness. A son of the late Frederick D. and Gertrude T. (Raubenstrauch) Fitch, he was born on October 27, 1946 in Johnsonburg, PA. On May 27, 1967 in Holy Cross Church of Rasselas, he married Patricia A. Boults, who preceded him in death only three days prior.
Along with his parents and his wife, Phil was predeceased by: a son, Timothy Fitch; and a twin sister, in infancy.
Phil is survived by: three children, Fred (Dee) Fitch of Roulette, PA, Mike (JoAnn) Fitch of Duncansville, PA, and Jeff (Jessica) Fitch of St. Thomas, VI; a daughter-in-law, Noreen Fitch of Wilcox; ten grandchildren, Josh, Bethany, Maddison, Reghan, Trent, Libby, Caroline, Sean, Oliver and Alex; and four great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Felix, Hunter and Evelyn.
Phil was a graduate of Johnsonburg Area Schools, Alfred State College and the University of Pittsburgh. He was proud of his twenty years of service in the US Army where he was awarded the Legion of Merit, among other citations, and enjoyed speaking at various public occasions. He worked many years with the PA Department of Agriculture as an Inspector; was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Pheasants Forever; and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed training his dogs. Born and raised in Johnsonburg, Phil lived the past forty plus years in Wilcox.
There will be no public viewing.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Ubel Funeral Home of Johnsonburg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Johnsonburg, with Father David Wilson.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Ridgway Servicemen's Detail. Military member are asked to assemble at the funeral home, 9:00 a.m., Saturday.
Interment will take place in the Holy Rosary Cemetery of Johnsonburg.
