James "Jim" Pennington, Sr.

James E. Pennington, Sr., age 85, of Clarion Road, Johnsonburg, PA, died Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Penn Highlands-DuBois, after a short illness.  A son of the late Percy and Pearl (Nortum) Pennington, he was born on April 28, 1939 in Johnsonburg, PA.  On April 17, 1994 he married Ruthie (Hanson), who survives at home.

Along with his wife, Jim is survived by: two children, James E. (Robin) Pennington, Jr. of Ridgway and Julie A. Pennington of St. Mary’s; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by: a son, John Pennington; a daughter, Sandra Jo Pennington; and seven siblings, William, Thomas, Norman “Sonny”, Edith, Nancy, Peggy and Carol.

Living all his life in Johnsonburg, Jim is a graduate of Johnsonburg schools and served in the USAR.  He retired from Sylvania after thirty two years and continued working as a roofer and truck driver for many years.  He was a member of the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, Johnsonburg American Legion, Central Hose Company, Wilcox Sportsmen’s and the Johnsonburg Fire Police.

Following Jim’s express wishes, there will be no visitation and no public services.

Interment will take place in the Wardvale Methodist Cemetery, next to his daughter.
