Cheryl Shannon Obituary

Cheryl A. Shannon, age 56, of Powers Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA, died June 7, 2022 at home, after a lengthy battle with multiple illnesses.  A daughter of Carole (Staten) Dorland of Bolivar, OH and the late W. Bruce Umpleby, she was born on March 26, 1966 in Massillon, OH.  On August 17, 1997 she married Jeffrey P. Shannon, who survives at home.

Along with her mother and her husband, Cheryl is survived by: two children, Kevin (Sarah) Shannon of Melbourne, FL and Kathryn (Adam) Piotrowski of Sanford, FL; two grandchildren, Abigail and Eleanor Shannon; a brother, Greg Umpleby; two sisters, Dawn Umpleby and Debbie (Mark) Beckley; several nieces and nephews; and her fur-baby, Max.

Cheryl served in the US Navy from 1991 – 2002 obtaining the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer in the Seabees.  After the Navy she went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Penn State University.  Raised in Canton, Ohio, she graduated from South Canton High School and travelled the world with the Navy for twelve years before settling in Johnsonburg with her husband in 2005.  She enjoyed Rock-n-Roll Music, classic cars, travel and had a great sense of humor.

There will be no public visitation.

A Celebration of Life will be held, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the St. John Lutheran Church Social Hall, 325 Church Street, Johnsonburg, PA.

The family suggests memorials be made in the form of a donation to the ASPCA in Cheryl’s name and will be accepting online condolences at www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com.
