Carl "Punk" L. Bortz, Jr.

Carl L. “Punk” Bortz, Jr., age 67, of Bennetts Valley Hwy, Penfield, PA, died unexpectedly at home, July 17, 2023.  A son of the late Carl and Sarah (Hartzell) Bortz, Sr., he was born on December 12, 1955 in Kittanning, PA.  On March 25, 1978 he married Brenda (Slagle), who survives at home.

Along with his wife, Carl is survived by: a son, Lee (Renee) Bortz of Penfield; a daughter-in-law, Ember Evans; six grandchildren, Gavin, Kimberly, Liam, Quinn, Gabriel and Christian; five brothers, Jamie Bortz of North Carolina, Kevin (Patty) Bortz of DuBois, Van (Marlene) Bortz of DuBois, Dana Bortz of Ohio and Terry (Tammy) Bortz of Ohio; and three sisters, Stacey (Bill) Davis of Shermansdale, LouAnn Pachetti of Reynoldsville and Carol Lynn (Dan) Gilbert of DuBois.

Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by: a son, Kevin Bortz and a brother-in-law, Carmen Pachetti.

Carl was raised in Kittanning, has lived in DuBois and Sabula, and has lived the past forty years in Penfield.  He entered the US Army during the Vietnam Era and continued in the Army Reserves for many years.  He was recalled to active duty during the Desert Shield/Desert Storm Era and retired from the Army on 2000.  He worked as a Diesetter for MPP of Falls Creek for the past thirty years.  He was a member of the Sabula Methodist Church and enjoyed spending his free time with his family.

There will be no public visitation.

Funeral Services will be held, 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2023 at the Sabula Methodist Church with Pastor Harold Brunner.

The family suggests memorials to the DuBois American Legion post 17 or the Sabula Methodist Church(259 Kilmer Rd., DuBois, PA  15801) and will be accepting online condolences at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home website(www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com).
