Lee Albert ("Buster") ShipmanJune 4, 1919 ~ September 26, 2015 (age 96) 96 Years Old
Lee Albert “Buster” Shipman, 96, of Caledonia, Pennsylvania, and most recently a tenant at Elk Towers in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, passed from this life and entered the Kingdom of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 26, 2015.
He was born on June 4, 1919, at his parent’s (William Albert Shipman and Freda Huff) home in Caledonia. Lee was one of seven children, and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Lee was married October 9, 1937, to the former Florence M. Ingram, and she preceded him in death on December 26, 1994.
Lee served his country with distinction with the United States Army during World War II as a Rifleman with Company B, 6th Armored Infantry Battalion. As a member of the Armored Division, Lee participated in two major battles in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, earning two Bronze Battle Stars and the WWII Victory Medal.
After returning home from the war, Lee continued employment as a Carpenter, with Stackpole Carbon Company in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, where enjoyed 44 years of employment before retiring in 1981.
Lee was a member of the Caledonia United Methodist Church, Bennetts Valley Senior Center, Bennetts Valley American Legion Post 978 and the Masonic Lodge No. 532 in Driftwood, Pennsylvania.
He is survived by one son, Robert L. Shipman, and his wife Patricia, of Ladson, South Carolina. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Terri Cyphert (Rod) of Leeper, Pennsylvania, Robert Shipman of Ladson, South Carolina, Paula Mahoney of Erie, Pennsylvania, William Shipman (Penny) of Belmont, New York, Denise Lawson of Ladson, South Carolina, and Douglas Corbin (Lorie) of Sheffield, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by a son-in-law, Denis Corbin of Clarion, Pennsylvania, formerly of Marienville.
Also surviving are 18 great grandchildren Courtney, Christian, Ashley, Robbie, Caitlyn, DJ, Chad, CaSandra, Kaitlynn, CheyAnn, Cynthia, Callin, Jaslynn, CayLeigh, David, Dustin, Kyle, and Hayley; and 7 great, great grandchildren, Grayson, Austin, Isabel, Addison, Bronson, Emma and Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, his wife, brothers, William and Elwood, sisters, Mae Wendel, June Florio, and Annabelle Feiley, Lee was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lou Corbin.
Lee was a wonderful man and will be missed by his family, friends and "his girls" from the Elk Towers.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home in Penfield, Pennsylvania, with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Kenneth Sherwood.
Immediately following the funeral service, The American Legion Post 978 Burial Detail will honor their fallen comrade with full military honors.
Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Jay Township, Elk County.
The family suggests memorials to the Hahne Cancer Center or the Caledonia United Methodist Church.
