PREDECEASED BY: Parents; Wife; 1 Grandchild – Zabrina Griffin; 3 Brothers – Dale, Derwood and Harris Elmquist.

 

MILITARY: Served as Corporal in the US Air Force during WWII, serving from 1943 – ’46.

 

NOTORIETY: Roy worked at the Johnsonburg Paper Mill for 46 years, retiring in 1989.  A member of the Wilcox Mission Church, he read his Bible daily and in the past several years, enjoyed Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings.

Roy had a polka band and played the accordion for 30 years, but his favorite instrument was the violin.  He also enjoyed working on violins which he repaired, traded and sold.  He attended and played Bluegrass Festivals, all over, for 30 years; entertained, playing several instruments, at many rest homes with his lifelong friend, Daniel Lindberg.  He  has won several fiddle contests over the years.

Roy was an avid history buff, writing several journals, since 1949, on local history, family history, local deaths and interesting stories from his youth.  He also had a wood-shop, making several things for family and friends.  He enjoyed farming and raised Appaloosa horses for 20 years.

Roy loved the Pittsburgh Pirates, fed wild birds out of his hand, enjoyed the homestead, traveled many places with his wife and sisters and had a true love for family, friends and nature.  A very gifted man and loving father, he will be missed by all.

 

 

 

OTHER RESIDENCES: Lived all his life in Wilcox on the Elmquist family homestead.

 

 

VISITATION:

Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, PA

Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, PA

 

FUNERAL SERVICES:

Will be held, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, PA with Reverend Dale Painter.

 

MILITARY HONORS: Will be accorded by the Johnsonburg/Ridgway servicemen’s Detail.  Military members are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:45 a.m.

 

 

INTERMENT: Wilcox Cemetery.
