Robert L. Whelpley, Jr., age 73, of Bennetts Valley Highway, Penfield, PA, died January 25, 2022 in Myersdale, PA after a lengthy illness. A son of the late Robert L. and Hazel (Smith) Whelpley, Sr., he was born on February 1, 1948 in DuBois, PA. On May 5, 1979 he married Norma J. (Smith) who survives at home in Penfield.
Along with his wife, Bob is survived by: six children, Robert D. Whelpley of DuBois, Lisa (Todd) Hamilton of Penfield, Richard (Wendy) Whelpley of Byrnedale, Curtis (Jessica Levenduski) Whelpley of Penfield, Michael (Amber) Whelpley of DuBois and Paul Whelpley of Penfield; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Alan (Sue) Whelpley of Brockway, Gary (Daune) Whelpley of Lansing, MI, Donald (Gwen) Whelpley of KY, and Ron Whelpley of Sandfield, MA; and a sister, Sharon (Mark) Kuepfer of Oklahoma.
Beside his parents, Bob was preceded in death by: one son, Jason Whelpley.
Bob served in the US Navy from 1966-’68, worked as an Electrician for thirty-four years at Speer Carbon of St. Marys, served as Huston Township Supervisor and worked in Huston Township Maintenance Department for seven years. He attended Tri-County Church of God and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 720, the NRA, the Penfield Fireman’s, the Bennetts Valley Legion, and had volunteered with the Bennetts Valley Ambulance for many years. He was born and raised in Brockway and lived most of his life in Penfield.
Public visitation will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. and also on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield, PA.
Funeral Services will be held, 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield with Reverend David Miller.
Interment will take place in Morningside Cemetery of DuBois.
