It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that the Nelson family announces the home going of Rev. Luther (Luke) A. Nelson, Sr.  Luke passed from this life on May 21, 2022, after a short and heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was born October 6, 1938, in Bridgetown, New Jersey, to George Nelson and Rose Nelson (Davis) who preceded him in death.  His wife, Nancy, of almost 65 years continues to reside in Caledonia, PA. Luke is survived by two sons, Luke (Barb), Jr., of Penfield, PA, and Bill (Roxann) of Bethlehem, PA, three grandchildren, Adam, Janet and Joy, as well as a great grandson, Christian. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Tayvinsky, and Janet Bowen, both of Southern New Jersey.  He is survived by one sister, Luann (Bob) Boss of Kissimmee, Florida.  Luke pastored congregations in the Wesleyan Church in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey for forty years.  He served his denomination on many District levels, of special mention as District Treasurer for over a decade.  He also served as Assistant District Superintendent and filled many other responsibilities.  Most of all, he was a pastor of the people, with a true shepherd's heart that blessed so many in the flock.  In retirement, he served in pulpits at many congregations in the area, most notably at Gardner Hill Community Church.  He also preached revival services in numerous churches throughout the region.  Wherever he went, from church pulpits to conversations at the local restaurant, the message was the same, "Jesus loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life".  He will truly be missed by many, and the his legacy lives on in the lives of those he touched.  

Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield and on Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Weedville Wesleyan Church.

Funeral Services will be held, 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at the Weedville Wesleyan Church.

Interment will take place in the Mt. Zion Cemetery of Weedville.
