Marie I. Whitcomb, age 85, of Dents Run, PA, died, at home, August 22, 2021. She has been ill for the past six years with her illness becoming strenuous on her the past couple years. A daughter of the late Andrew J. and Charlotte (Keeler) Sestina, she was born on February 4, 1936 in Emporium, PA. On June 23, 1962 she married Gordon Whitcomb who preceded her in death in 2002.
Besides her parents and husband, Marie was predeceased by: a grandson, Derek Clay; two brothers, Jack and Don Sestina; two sisters, Margaret Aucoin and Catherine Crissman.
Marie is survived by: two children, Joel Whitcomb and Andrea (Scott) Clay; and a grandson, Carter Clay, all of Dents Run.
After graduating from Cameron County High School, where she enjoyed playing the trombone in the marching band, Marie worked at the bank in Emporium. Later, along with her husband, she owned and operated the Whitcomb’s Country Store until 1989. She was very active in her membership at the Benezette United Methodist Church with the Ladies Aide and had served as Lay Speaker. She enjoyed baking, for which she was famous for her Peanut Butter Fudge; playing the piano; but mostly enjoyed spending every possible moment with her grandchildren and family.
Public visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Ralph M. Geer Funeral Home of Penfield, PA. Funeral services will follow the visitation, 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Missy Smith.
Interment will take place in the Morningside Cemetery of DuBois, next to her husband.
