John L. Casciani, Jr.

John Louis Casciani, Jr. age 88, of Mason, Ohio, and formerly of Johnsonburg, died December 2, 2022.  A son of the late John Sr. & Elizabeth (DiNardo) Casciani, he was born on October 23, 1934 in Johnsonburg, PA.  On June 20, 1959, he married Dena Jean (Duchi), who preceded him in death in 2021.

He is survived by: two daughters, Cheryl A. Casciani of Baltimore, MD and Barbara J. Casciani of Loveland, OH; and one sister, Serafina (Casciani) Hacherl of Green Valley, AZ.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by: two brothers, Emidio Casciani and Ralph Casciani; and two sisters, Anna (Casciani) Grayson and Rose (Casciani) Calla.

John was raised on 2^nd Avenue in Johnsonburg, and then moved to Woodland Avenue in 1965. 

He was a 1952 Johnsonburg Area High School graduate.  He received his bachelor’s degree in 1956 from Clarion State College and his master’s degree in nuclear chemistry in 1962 from Arizona State University. 

He was a beloved chemistry, math and photography teacher at Johnsonburg Area High School for 37 years.  Many of his former students fondly remember his classroom and attribute their career choices and success to John.  His fondness for photography was captured in the annual slides show; which was produced by his photography club and included pictures of everyone in the school set to music. 

He was a skilled woodworker and proudly donated a hand-made piece every year to the Johnsonburg High School alumni reunion.

After retirement, he relocated with Dena to Maineville, OH, near Cincinnati.  He enjoyed daily walks with Dena and Buddy; working puzzles with Barb; and regular communication with Cheryl during Pirate and Steeler games.

John was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Johnsonburg and St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church of Maineville, OH. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and also on Friday, from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Ubel Funeral Home of Johnsonburg, PA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2022, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Johnsonburg, PA, with Father David Wilson.

Interment will take place in Holy Rosary Cemetery of Johnsonburg.
