Mario Catalone Obituary

Mario B. Catalone, 89, Weedville, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Penn Highlands Healthcare in DuBois.  He was born February 3, 1929, in St. Marys, son of the late Rocco & Rose (Caseino) Catalone.  On July 21, 1951 he married Loye (Buck) at St. Agnes Church in St. Marys.  Shortly before what would have been their 66th wedding anniversary, she preceded him in death on June 12, 2017.

Mario is survived by a daughter, Rose (John) Petrini of Weedville; three sons, Dana (Julie) Catalone of Scattertown, Victor (Susan) Catalone of Weedville, and Craig (Deirdre) Catalone of Weedville; four grandchildren:  Matthew, Christine, Bradley, Lucas and wife Dana Catalone who are expecting the birth of the first great grandchild later this year.

He is survived by sisters:  Virginia Skryzpek, Joanne (Tom) Bauer, Mary Lanshcak, Betty Williams, Lucy (Craig) Newton and by brothers:  Paul Catalone, Rudy (Patty) Catalone, Robert (Betty) Catalone, Edward Catalone and Rocky (Sandy) Catalone. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael.  Also, he was preceded in death by a brother Joseph in infancy, a sister Rita Mattivi, Sister-in-law Ziggie Catalone and by Brothers-in-law:  Vincent Skryzpek, John Mattivi, Bob Lanshcak, Don Williams.

Mario was an Army Staff Sargent during the Korean War and also served in the National Guard for 3 years.  In his early years, he owned & operated the "Mario's Hilltop Diner".  He worked for PennDOT as Assistant Supervisor of Municipal Services for 30 years before retiring in 1988.  A few years prior to his retirement, he had an idea to establish a pipe supply business and watched with pride as his idea flourished. Then after retirement he enjoyed delivering pipe, meeting people and being on the road again.   He was also a brick & block layer for most of his life and passing on that trade to his sons.   He was a member & past master of the Driftwood-Emporium Lodge 532 F. & A.M., a member of the Coudersport Consistory 32nd Degree Masons and a member of the American Legion Post #978.

Mario enjoyed telling a good story, cooking, a good game of cards, going for rides to eat out, frequent trips to Salamanca in the "Edmobile", and just sitting on his porch with family & friends watching the world go by.
