Joshua F. McDermott

December 13, 1980 ~ September 25, 2017 (age 36) 36 Years Old

Joshua F. McDermott, 36, of Elk Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA, died, Monday, September 25, 2017, surrounded by loved ones, at the Kane Community Hospital, after more than ten years battling reoccurring Glioblastomas.

 

He was born on December 13, 1980 in Warren, PA, a son of Barbara J. (Zampogna) McDermott of Kane and the late James M. McDermott and on July 17, 2015, he married Cheri Bowley, who survives in Johnsonburg. 

 

Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by a daughter, Katelynn N. Hopper of Knox, PA; a step-daughter, Natasha J. Bowley of St. Marys; a grandson, Gage Celinski; his two brothers, James P (Christy) McDermott of Marysville, OH and Patrick J. (Joleen) McDermott of Kane; a brother-in-law, Tom Bowley of Johnsonburg; a niece, Madeline McDermott and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his father, Joshua was preceded in death by his grandparents, James G. and Virginia McDermott and Frederick and Marjorie Zampogna; and childhood friends, Ken VanGiesen and Shawn Wilson.

 

Joshua lived most of his life in Kane and the past five years in Johnsonburg.  He graduated from Kane Senior High School, attended Edinboro University and was working as a Die-Setter Trainee with Clarion Sintered Metals of Ridgway, PA.  A member of St. Callistus of Kane and the Central Hose Social Club of Johnsonburg, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, Penn State and Raiders football, the Yankees, spending time with his family sitting around the fire and being with the pets, Natalie, Hunter and Nadia.

 

Visitation will take place on Friday, September 29, 2017, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home of Johnsonburg, PA.  A funeral service will be held, 12:00 noon, Friday, at the Funeral Home, with Father Philip Pinczewski .

 

Burial will take place at the Holy Rosary Cemetery of Johnsonburg, PA

 

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, the Ken VanGriesen Scholarship fund of Kane Area High School, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the family - C/O the Ubel Funeral Home, or a favorite charity, and will be accepting online condolences at www.nedzafamilyfuneralhomes.com.
