Georgia N. Torchia, 78, of Wilcox Road, Johnsonburg, PA, died, Saturday, September 29, 2018, at home, after a brief illness. A daughter of the late George and Evelyn (Lunger) Newell, she was born on November 24, 1939 in St. Marys. On June 13, 1970 she married Gildo R. Torchia who survives in Johnsonburg.
Also surviving are her: two daughters, JoAnn (Michael) Fitch of Duncansville and Georgann (Cory) Barnett of Johnsonburg; five grandchildren, Maddison, Reghan and Trent Fitch and Sydney and Justin Barnett; and three sisters, Janice Wonderly of Ridgway, Wilma Portzer of Warren and Grace Kriegisch of Tennessee.
Besides her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by: two brothers-in-law, Fred Wonderly and Dan Portzer.
Georgia enjoyed being a homemaker and working with her husband as Secretary of DiNardo Paving. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was always first to help out family and friends. For many years she had managed in the Girl’s Knothole Softball League. She enjoyed playing cards with “The Ladies” and was always an avid Yankees fan with her all-time favorites being Mickey Mantle and Derek Jeter.
Born and raised in St. Marys, Georgia graduated Central Catholic High School and has been a Johnsonburg resident since 1970.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 5 – 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 9 – 10 a.m. at the Ubel Funeral Home, Johnsonburg, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Johnsonburg, PA with Father David Wilson.
Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
